Indian Sandstone Patio and Path with a Concrete Shed Base in Chelmsford
This project involved transforming a tired garden area in Chelmsford by installing a beautiful Indian sandstone patio and path, along with a robust concrete shed base. The new features were designed to maximise outdoor space usage while adding a durable and visually appealing patio area for outdoor activities and relaxation.
The Process:
Site Preparation
The first step involved clearing the existing garden area, including the removal of uneven turf and old paving slabs. This created a blank canvas for the new patio, path, and shed base installation. The ground was excavated to the correct depth, ensuring the base for the patio and shed would be stable and level.
Excavation and Groundwork:
For the patio and path areas, the ground was leveled, and a sub-base was laid using compacted hardcore. This provided a solid foundation to support the weight of the Indian sandstone and prevent future shifting or sinking. The area for the shed base was carefully dug out and leveled before the concrete was poured. The concrete base was reinforced to ensure it could support the shed’s weight for years to come.
Laying the Indian Sandstone Patio and Path:
The Indian sandstone slabs were then carefully laid in a random pattern to create a natural, contemporary look. The neutral tones of the sandstone added a sophisticated yet timeless appeal to the garden.
A path was constructed to connect the patio to the shed area, ensuring a practical and cohesive flow throughout the garden. The slabs were meticulously spaced and jointed with a mortar mix, ensuring a durable and long-lasting surface.
Installing the Concrete Shed Base:
After the ground preparation, concrete was mixed and poured into the formwork for the shed base. The concrete was leveled and smoothed to create a solid, durable foundation for the future garden shed. Once cured, the shed base provided a perfectly flat and secure surface for the shed to be installed upon.
Finishing Touches:
The patio and path were finished with a dark border using brick edging to define the space and add a touch of elegance. The combination of the light sandstone and darker borders enhanced the visual appeal of the outdoor area. The entire area was cleaned, leaving behind a pristine garden transformation ready for use.
